As a parent, I understand that one more thing to do in a day sometimes does not get done. As an adult with a million other “adulting” things to do each day, I know we have to prioritize what is needed and what can be pushed off.
As the journalism adviser, I have to keep track of not only students’ video projects, news articles and preparing a yearbook, but I also have to keep track of the equipment we use, and the inventory of old yearbooks we have collected over the years. This is year 19 for me as the yearbook/journalism teacher and adviser, and we currently have yearbooks that have not been picked up by students since before I took over in the 2005-06 school year.
With that being said, we are running out of storage in the Journalism Lab for all of these books. So we are instituting a new policy and then we are going to post this via every social media we can to make sure it can be found by alumni from the last few years, as well as those who may remember the three story building where the middle school currently stands.
As of January 31, 2025, we will be recycling any paid-for yearbooks we are storing from prior to the 2019-20 school. From that point forward, we will keep yearbooks for a period of five years, and then they, too, will be recycled each January.
To help ensure that others are (hopefully) found and notified either through this article or a social media post, we have included a list of names of the people we know have paid yearbooks in our storage. Please help us out and share this with neighbors, friends, and loved ones whose names appear.
If your name appears on this list, please email journalism email address at [email protected] to let us know when you will be picking up (please allow at least 24 hours notice). We will have the book ready for you to pick up in the high school office. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
