The North Polk Football Team took the win on Thursday, Nov. 14 against North Scott securing their place to compete for the state championship against Pella on Thursday, Nov. 21. and keeping the undefeated streak alive.
While the successful season paints a beyond positive image on the team, the bonding seen through the boys depicts the true nature of the Comet community. One of the more obvious instances of this is some of the players’ distinct hairstyles.
Junior Brody Johnson explained that though this is not the first time going to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Dome, it is his first time sporting the bleach blonde hair shared among teammates.
“I decided to bleach my hair because it shows a bond between teammates by showing that we are together as a team and it shows how we can support each other by doing it together,” expressed Johnson.
Moreover, Johnson recounted the special relationship that this team has had and continues to have with the upcoming championship game.
“I will miss how the team strives for more and I will miss how well-bonded the whole team is and how we support each other on and off the field,” voiced Johnson.
The teamsmanship is not only felt among the players themselves, though, as Coach Tim Tebrink explained that this team, especially through the leadership of the seniors, has grown together ever since middle school and continues to work together each week.
“It is an honor to be able to coach this team and be a part of this program. It is a great feeling to get back to the DOME, but we are hungry for more than just a Dome State appearance. Each week our goal is to be 1-0 and so far we have achieved this goal each week and that is our goal again this week, to be 1-0 and to have a chance to practice and be a team for one more week,” exclaimed Tebrink.
