While it will be hard to follow the legacy of both previous editors and North Polk alumnus Alexis Dorsett and Olivia Moody, considering this is the last article I will be writing, I will give it a shot.
I had never had any interest in newspaper and/or even something Journalism related until Mrs. Trier, then Creative Writing teacher, recommended the class Journalism Productions taught by the lovely Mrs. Stubbs. Even then, I did not think it would be anything but an extra English class to fulfill graduation requirements.
When going through the semester of the class something changed, though, and I realized that the ethics, the community and the overall sense of what Journalism entails is something that I will forever want to carry with me.
Writing my first two articles for The Orbit during that semester had officially cemented me as the newest writer and editor of a school newspaper and the newest member of what would one day become my Journalism family.
Throughout my three years writing for the newspaper I have not only become a better writer, but a better communicator and a better version of myself. Not only have I spoken to people I would have never met without The Orbit, but the connections with some of these people have and forever will impact me.
To my fellow Journalism students, thank you for all the good times, the laughs and the juicy gossip inside the bright green Broadcast Lab walls.
To my past and present co-editors Olivia Moody, Addison Happ and Morgan Eyanson-Renken, I loved reading each and every one of your articles. Thank you for reading my not-so-good and not-so-good but better articles and helping me be the writer that I am today.
To Mrs. Trier and Mrs. Stubbs, thank you for shaping me into not only the writer that I have become, but the person that I have come to love everyday when I look in the mirror. You guys have always given me your all even when you had the weight and pressure of the world on you; I could never truly thank you enough. I, and all other editors, appreciate all the time and effort that you put into this amazing Journalism department, especially when you deal with us during our very loud days.
And to The Orbit, there is nothing more to say but thank you. Thank you The Orbit for giving me the voice I did not know I had.
