Michael Shane, Broadcast Editor
Michael Shane is a senior at North Polk High School that is part of the Broadcasting team, as well as continuing a video series, “Michael in the Streets”.
“…my current role is just assisting the broadcasting team in whatever they may need help with or advice on,” says Shane.
Shane states that he got introduced into Journalism during his junior year of high school and has enjoyed continuing being on the team.
“[Shane was] happily surprised with the atmosphere and work [in the class] so I stayed in it, I’ve been a part of the crew ever since then and have loved it.” he affirms.
Shane expresses that some good qualities to have as a journalist are being able to be unbiased, the importance of asking certain questions to certain people and to have a positive attitude when addressing people in order to get the best responses.
“being able to talk to all sorts of different people and really get to know them deeper than most people would.” expresses Shane when asked about a favorite part about being in Journalism.
Furthermore, Shane states that being able to have someone expressing themselves in their own words and getting to deeper know someone is another benefit.
Outside of Journalism, Shane enjoys playing music, spending time with friends and family, okay games and spending time outdoors.
After graduating from high school, Shane plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing.
“it’s somewhat of an overarching degree which’ll cover a lot of bases which is good because I’m unsure of what I want to do” affirms Shane.
