During second hour on Feb. 25,  Golden Apple History was made. Students filled the auditorium to celebrate the teaching style of high school band director Brandon Weeks.

Marching band drum major Grace Smithey was the person who got the ball rolling for his nomination. Through a group email, she informed every band student that they should all nominate Weeks so he has a higher chance of winning the award.

The band students managed to get over 100 nominations in favor of Week’s outstanding teaching and overall personality. The outpour of nominations by the band students was the most in all 20 plus years that the Golden Apple has been awarded.

While Weeks thinks “that this award really goes to all the band kids that have worked so hard,” Drum Major Maddie Bond stated, “It really just came down to Mr. Weeks being the teacher he is. All of us feel like he deserves the award as he is very inclusive and really does believe in everyone.”

The Golden Apple Award is presented by WHO13 and sponsored by IMT Insurance.
