*Originally published on our beta site March 12, 2020. North Polk fine arts students recently went to PCM High School to participate in HOIAC for band, choir, and art.

On Thursday, March 5, multiple students from our fine arts classes were selected to participate in a conference-wide concert for band and choir, as well as an art demonstration that was later judged.

“There was a large amount of interest in HOIAC honor choir with dozens of kids showing interest from North Polk,” junior, Addi Thomas said. “In total nine of us ended up going for choir with North Polk getting two out of four of the solos.”

Students left for PCM at 8 a.m. and had a concert around 7 p.m.

“It was a very busy day, with us usually practicing for an hour or two and then getting a 10-minute break before getting right back into it,” Thomas said. “In the choir, we learned four songs for the concert completely memorizing one in just a few hours.”

With this being North Polk’s last year in the HOIAC conference this was a good way to really demonstrate all the talents these students possess and show off the hard work they put in.

“It shows that things can be done if the hard work and effort is put in, as well as a way for North Polk to show off the talent it has one last time,” Thomas explains. “We are hoping that going into the new conference we will be able to showcase more of the talent our fine arts has.”
