Girls’ Soccer 2022

The North Polk Girls’ soccer team has had an amazing season against the competition regardless of the poor weather circumstances.

Currently, the girl’s varsity soccer team is 10-3 after having a tough battle at their conference game. The junior varsity team is undefeated with a 9-1-0 record. They have tied once with Johnston.

This season, the girls’ soccer team had to overcome a lot of obstacles. The girls’ soccer coach, Francis Lee, shared, “The season has been awesome so far. The only downside has been the weather! We have been battling extreme winds, cold fronts, rain and now extreme heat. But these girls are relentless. They continue to work and push themselves to be better even in terrible circumstances.”

The girls this season have worked really hard thus far, but what it really comes down to is the tournament which begins soon. “The Iowa girls’ soccer brackets were released this past weekend. We received a bye for our first round and will play against the winner of Ballard High School and Gilbert High School in the second round,” shared Lee. Their first regional game will be held on May 24 at home.

This season the team progressed a lot. “As a brand new coaching staff, we are very lucky to be working with such a fantastic group. They listen, ask questions and then implement the new ideas into their game. As I mentioned, they have pushed through so many obstacles in just one season. But some of these girls have had multiple different coaches throughout their high school careers. It is not easy implementing a whole new culture, expectations and rules as your first year as head coach but these girls have made it so easy. They have bought in fully and continue to work hard no matter the circumstances,” Lee wanted to note.

Overall, the Girls’ Soccer season is almost over and with that, Lee would love to see more of the student body. In addition to wanting more students, Lee is also handing out free soccer t-shirts at home games!
